Washington DC [US], August 24 (ANI): Pixar’s animated film ‘Cars’ will be back in theatres to celebrate its 20th anniversary starting September 4, reported Variety.
The race back to theatres coincides with Lightning McQueen Day on September 5, honouring Owen Wilson’s lead character’s number, #95.
According to the outlet, the anniversary will be commemorated throughout the year with a number of themed collaborations and activations, including special screenings at the Tee-Pee Drive-In and Tulsa Circle Cinema, a life-size Lightning McQueen and “Cars” wrapped Mercedes safety car at the Formula 1 Gran Premio D’Italia at Monza in September where fans can shop the “Cars Collection for Formula 1,” plus an activation with Nascar at the Daytona 500 in February.
There will also be life-size “Cars” exhibits at the Beaulieu National Motor Museum in England, the National Automobile Museum in Italy, and the Petersen Automotive Museum and National Automobile Museum in the US.
The official logline for the 2006 animated film reads: “On the way to the biggest race of his life, a hotshot rookie race car gets stranded in a rundown town and learns that winning isn’t everything in life,” as quoted by Variety.
Lightning McQueen’s character is voiced by Wilson, and the cast includes Paul Newman as Doc Hudson, Mater voiced by Larry the Cable Guy and Sally voiced by Bonnie Hunt. John Lasseter directed the film, which was produced by Darla K. Anderson and featured original music by Randy Newman.
It won Best Animated Film at the Golden Globes in 2007, and was nominated for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song and Best Animated Feature Film of the Year at the 2007 Oscars. (ANI)
