Dublin [Ireland], June 12 (ANI): Ireland will face Israel in their upcoming Nations League match at a neutral venue behind closed doors, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) said on Friday, Reuters reported.
The decision follows protests by players and fans over the civilian death toll during war in Gaza.
Ireland was scheduled to host Israel at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on October 4, while the September 27 match, designated as an Israel home game, is also expected to be held at a neutral venue, the report said.
The FAI statement, according to the report, said that the Palestinian Football Association had “expressed its appreciation for the principled positions taken by the Football Association of Ireland in support of the rights of the Palestinian people and Palestinian athletes.”
