New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi congratulated India Grandmaster for winning the Norway Chess 2026 and making the country proud.

Praggnanandhaa scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess title on Friday night. The 20-year-old clinched the crown with a final-round victory over Germany’s Vincent Keymer, capping off one of the most impressive comeback runs in the tournament’s history.

Taking to X, Priyanka Gandhi congratulated Praggnanandhaa and hailed his determination, saying, “Heartiest congratulations to Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa on becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess title. Your brilliance, determination and calm under pressure have made the nation proud. Wishing you many more historic victories ahead.”

Mallikarjun Kharge also congratulated R Praggnanandhaa for the historic milestone, praising his exceptional talent, composure and determination. Kharge said the young grandmaster’s achievement has made the nation proud.

“Heartiest congratulations to our young star, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa on becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess title. Your extraordinary talent, composure and relentless determination have brought immense pride to the nation. Wishing you continued success and many more achievements in the years ahead,” he said in an X post.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, on the other hand, congratulated Praggnanandhaa, saying, “Congratulations to Praggnanandhaa on winning the Norway Chess title. His success is a testament to India’s rich chess tradition and highlights the strength of the new generation of Indian players who continue to excel on the global stage.”

The Norway Chess 2026 tournament featured a world-class field, including World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, reigning world champion India’s D Gukesh, Alireza Firouzja, Wesley So and Vincent Keymer, making it one of the strongest events on the international chess calendar.

The victory over Keymer came on the back of Praggnanandhaa’s wins against Alireza Firouzja, World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and reigning world champion D Gukesh over the previous four days. The tournament also saw Praggnanandhaa complete a rare double win over Carlsen.(ANI)
