Washington DC [US], June 27 (ANI): Amal Clooney has opened up about the challenges of balancing public attention with her professional life after marrying Hollywood star George Clooney, saying it was “easier” to navigate her life and career before their high-profile marriage, according to Page Six.
Speaking at a Cartier Dialogues event in Bangkok, the renowned human rights lawyer reflected on how marriage to the Oscar-winning actor changed the level of public scrutiny she experienced.
“It was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got,” Amal said. “It was something new to navigate”, as quoted by the outlet.
The 48-year-old attorney said there was a time when she could keep her professional and personal lives separate, but that changed after marrying George in 2014.
“It was a weird phenomenon,” she said. “I used to have my work life and my personal life, and they could look quite different, and I was able to not have them mix… and then I got married, and that changed quite a lot,” according to Page Six.
Amal admitted she initially became conscious of how she was perceived in public, especially given her work in courtrooms.
“At first I was kind of conscious of that one-dimensional view where I felt like, well, I can’t be seen wearing this dress or doing this because I’m in front of a judge on Monday and I don’t want the judge to… but you know it just doesn’t matter as much as living your life,” she said, according to Page Six.
She added that professional credibility ultimately depends on one’s work rather than public appearances.
“Ultimately if you’re good at what you do, that is going to shine through or not,” Amal said.
Despite the increased attention that came with marrying one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Amal said she never allowed it to dictate decisions concerning her family or relationship.
“I wouldn’t allow that factor to stop me from doing things that were important for my family or for my relationship,” she said, according to Page Six.
Amal and George Clooney tied the knot in a lavish, star-studded ceremony in Italy in 2014. The couple are parents to nine-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.
George has often spoken about their strong relationship. In an interview earlier this year, the actor said marriage has made him more secure.
“I’m much more secure, and I am also less in the mood to win arguments. When you’re young, you’re trying to win everything,” he said.
Amal has also praised her husband’s unwavering support for her demanding legal career. While speaking during an interview last year, she said, “I have a life partner who is so supportive of what I do. So I don’t feel like I have to apologise for it or rein it in,” according to Page Six. (ANI)
